Everything you need to know about buying chickens from YK Ranch. Can't
find your answer? Contact us directly!
Yes! Most of our hens are currently laying eggs. When you buy from
YK Ranch, you'll start collecting fresh eggs right away. We only
sell hens that are at laying age and producing. If a specific breed
is not currently laying, we'll let you know upfront.
We offer both options!
Pickup: You can pick up your chickens directly
from our ranch in Acton, CA
Local Delivery: We deliver to Acton, Agua

Absolutely. All of our chickens are raised with care, fed premium
feed, and kept in clean, healthy conditions. We vaccinate our birds
and ensure they're in top health before they go to their new homes.
If you have specific health questions about a chicken, we're happy
to discuss it with you.
Yes! When you visit our ranch for pickup, you're welcome to select
the specific birds you'd like. We want you to be completely happy
with your chickens. For delivery orders, we'll choose healthy,
productive hens for you based on the breeds you request.
For first-time chicken owners, we recommend our standard egg layers
($40 each):
ISA Brown: Friendly, prolific brown egg
layers, very low-maintenance
Rhode Island Red: Hardy, reliable, great for
families
Leghorn: Excellent white egg layers, active
and independent
These breeds are forgiving, productive, and perfect for learning the
basics of chicken keeping.
A good rule of thumb:
4 square feet per chicken inside the coop
10 square feet per chicken in an outdoor run
More space is always better! Happy chickens with room to roam will
be healthier and lay more eggs. We're happy to help you plan your
setup.
No! Hens will lay eggs without a rooster. A rooster is only needed
if you want fertilized eggs to hatch chicks. If you just want fresh
eggs for your family, hens alone will do the job perfectly. Many
backyard chicken owners skip the rooster to avoid noise and
aggressive behavior.
Standard Egg Layers ($40): Highly productive hybrid
breeds bred specifically for maximum egg production. Great for
beginners who want lots of eggs with minimal fuss.
Heritage Breeds ($75): Traditional breeds with
beautiful plumage, unique personalities, and excellent egg
production. They're more expensive due to rarity, beauty, and breed
preservation value. Perfect for collectors and those who want
variety in their flock.
Ultra-rare breeds like the Ayam Cemani ($259) and Deathlayer ($200)
are extremely difficult to find in the United States. These birds
are imported, carefully bred, and highly sought after by collectors.
The Ayam Cemani, for example, is completely black (even their
bones!) and is considered mystical in Indonesia. Limited
availability and breeding challenges drive the price.
